Houseguests, crap, continued...

A small turd was discovered on the floor by the door. And someone stepped in it. So, it was a small smushed turd. Again, not sure which cat is protesting. Perhaps both.
I'm a barely-standing-ragdoll now, washing sheets and towels, in preparation for two, no, three more sets of houseguests. Then, I leave town on Sunday and will be a houseguest myself for a couple of days.
Here are some tips on how to be a stellar houseguest:
1) don't complain
2) say thank you
3) use only one towel
4) bring food and drink if possible
5) don't start drinking before noon
6) take a nap, a walk, or read sometimes
7) take care of your needs
8) help clean up
9) bring a present
10) be nice

Do you have other tips?

I find it exceedingly interesting that you actually have a fifth thing on this list. I am also intrigued by what that fifth thing is. Do you, in fact, plan to act by convention as if isn't there...?

how about:
-don't critize my kids or dog,
-don't wear your shoes in the house,
-don't complain that you cannot smoke in my house even though it's been like 10 yrs since you could not
-don't hint that you'd like a doggie bag so that you don't have to make lunches for work next week
-don't use mounds of toilet paper because the toilet will plug
-don't eat chips and then brush your hands together over top of the couch
-don't complain about the small size of our tv
-don't complain that you didn't sleep a wink all night
-don't get stupid when you drink (you may wanna add this one onto # 5)

that's all i can spew out at the moment!

hope it helps...lol

Your suggestion to "help clean up" is a good one and one that many people forget.

How about
-Don't use all the hot water
-Don't "borrow" (ie steal) shampoo, soap, etc.
-Don't complain about someone's pets, because this is their home too!

I used to live with a musician and, as a result, bands who were touring (and playing with my significant other's band) often stayed at our house over night. Sometimes they were stereotypically messy, drunk, and annoying. But one band (The Constantines) did our dishes (even dishes that were dirty before they arrived!) and took photos of our dog which they sent me copies of a few weeks later. I always thought that was really sweet. They were always welcome.

Excellent points here. 2 more to add here:

1) The good houseguest rules still apply even if you are going through a personal emotional crisis.

2) Best to get a hotel room if you hook up with someone and want to bed them.
