Being Right

I've been frustrated lately in my dealings with a person who always needs to be right. After some insomniac ruminations last night, it occurred to me that if I'm reacting to Mr. Needs-to-Be-Right I must also need to be right. Or, at least I must be attached to the idea that I'm "righter".

Maybe I am wrong, but I think you are deeply committed to the idea that anyone can be mistaken about anything.

Does this mean I truly am right, then?

It certainly means that you have all your bases covered - whenever you need to make a tactical fallback in your larger debate strategy. But I'm gonna go with you being truly right - because Aggie Always Gets It Right.

I want Dr. Phil to be wrong...and less certain of himself in general.

Does Dr. Phil really say "do you want to be right or happy?"

That is too funny.

(a) He's probably more insufferable than Mr. Needs-to-Be-Right.

(b) But you could say he's chosen the option of being wrong and happy.

Dr. Phil indeed says that. I whisper it to myself when someone tries to bait me in an argument and it usually works. Who knew Dr. Phil could be useful? Though he does seem like the kind of guy who would always have to be right...
