I love my sister-in-law. This morning she was at the end of her tether with her almost 4-year-old, and she pulled out the infamous Santa line that parents have used for centuries: "Santa is watching, and noting who is being cooperative and who isn't." The response was, "No, he isn't" to which my sister-in-law responded, "Yes, Santa sees everything. He is watching you all the time." Then, the child became cooperative. The line works.
It is a shame we can't use the Santa line to other adults when they are being uncooperative or assholes or uncooperative assholes.
